Jacob only goes to nursery in the mornings at the moment, and I was rather hoping he’d be tired in the afternoons. But Jake had other ideas and requested to go somewhere today. I like to try and come up with different activities so we’re not just going to the same play areas week after week, so today we headed to one of our local parks. Sometimes the simple ideas are the best! We took food for the ducks, loaded his scooter into the car and set off.
When we arrived, there were a few dog walkers and such like, but the play area section itself was deserted except for another toddler and her mum. I couldn’t help thinking how nice it was, to come somewhere when most other children were at school! Jacob spent time on his scooter in the band stand (which was clearly a novelty), he fed the ducks and was able to try and climb the large climbing frame. He could take his time and I could snap a few photos of him without someone else’s child appearing in the background!
Other Children Always Get In The Way!
Now don’t get me wrong, I don’t think other children are always a nuisance. But the contrast you get from going somewhere in term time compared to the weekends and holidays, makes such a nice change. There’s no one pushing in or bigger kids barging into the little ones. There’s no larger groups of older children who tend to dominate one activity. It’s nice not to have queues in the cafe, and if Jacob wants to spend ages on the swing…. he can.
We spent the afternoon pleasing ourselves, and I enjoyed the outing more because other people’s children were not there! I’m definitely going to take advantage of these few months I’ve got left with him before he starts school this year. There’s so many great places that I choose not to take him to as I know how busy it will be, but it’s days like today that remind me we’ve got every afternoon to do something nice together!
